CS Nakhumicha appoints Atwoli as a member of Social Health Authority

NAIROBI, KENYA Nov 23 – Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been appointed as a member of the Social Health Authority for a period of 3 years with effect from 22nd November 2023.

Through a gazette notice dated Nov 22nd 2023, the Cabinet Secretary for Health Susan Nakhumicha appointed Francis Atwoli together with Zakayo Kariuki Gichukia and Jacinta Kathamu Mutegi as  members of the Social health Authority.

“In exercise of the power conferred by section 7(1) of the Social  Health Insurance Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Health appoints, Zakayo Kariuki Gichuki (Dr), Jacinta Kathamu Mutegi and Francis Atwoli as members of the Social Health Authority ,for a period of three (3) years ,with effect from the 22nd November 2023,” read the gazette notice.

The appointments comes after the enactment of the Social Health Insurance Act 2023, as announced by CS Nakhumicha in a gazette notice dated November 21.

“In exercise of powers conferred by section 1 of the Social Health Act 2023, the Cabinet Secretary for health designates the 22nd November 2023, as the on which the Social Insurance Act 2023, shall come in operation, “ stated the CS.

The Social Health Act 2023, is one of out of the three Universal Health Coverage bill signed by the president to replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
