Crime news: Man’s body discovered hanging on a tree

Police are investigating the death of a man found hanging from a tree at the Donholm roundabout in Nairobi, suspected to be a suicide.

The body was discovered on Thursday morning and authorities have not ruled out foul play, considering the possibility that the man may have been killed and then hanged to simulate a suicide.

The body has been transported to the mortuary as investigations continue. The incident drew a crowd, who watched from a distance as police struggled to remove the body, which had a rope around the neck.

The rise in suicide cases has prompted calls for action, with police reporting at least one incident daily.

In a separate incident in Huruma, Nairobi, 36-year-old Reuben Ngugi collapsed and died after experiencing a coughing fit and nosebleed. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Additionally, a 49-year-old man was electrocuted while pruning a tree at Nyondia Estate in Naivasha on June 11. Witnesses reported that he accidentally contacted a live power cable, resulting in his instant death. Police and officials from Kenya Power and Lighting are investigating the incident. His body has also been taken to the mortuary for further procedures.

These incidents highlight an increase in electrocution cases, with calls for the power utility provider to implement measures to address the issue.
