Comedian turned politician Eric Omondi now says he has filed a petition asking President William Ruto to drastically reduce his annual travel allowance, at the cost of paying taxes.

Omondi’s request comes as the government prepares to announce revenue for the coming financial year on Thursday.

The budget is covered by the controversial 2024 budget, which is expected to introduce many new taxes for Kenyans.Taxes that will likely add more strains and setbacks to the already hard economy Kenyans are experiencing.

During an appearance on Citizen TV’s ‘JKLive’ on Wednesday evening, Omondi stressed the need for a reparation process by the executive and legislature instead of the many new taxes proposed in the bill, which expose how President Ruto is spending millions of taxpayers’ dollars and traveling expenses only.

“The president has traveled 68 times and he carries a delegation,” Omondi said adding “we must hold this government accountable. They have budgeted for luxury cars. I want to challenge the presedent, deputy president, CSs, PSs and MPs to take a paycut for just one year.”

President Ruto has been a ‘flying’ president with recent travel to USA brewing a lot of rumors that his US trip cost Ksh200 million.

However, in his response to allegation that the government parted with Ksh200 million for the trip, Ruto said his trip cost Ksh10 million.
