A police officer stationed in Bungoma County was knocked down by a police vehicle while carrying out official duty at Cheptais Junction on Sunday night.

According to a police report, the incident occurred when Fredrick Juma attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) in Bungoma West had stopped a trailer for a routine inspection.

The trailer, driven by Ali Abdullahi Bunyori, was heading towards Chwele from Sirisia. Juma flagged it down to interrogate the driver. Unfortunately a Toyota Land Cruiser attached to Sirisia Police Station that was heading in the opposite direction knocked him down, killing him on the spot.

Gideon Magut, who was driving the Land Cruiser, maneuvered and managed to avoid the stationary trailer parked on the side of the road.

“Due to the impact, the deceased was pushed ahead, suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot,” Police report

Following the incident, police officers arrived at the scene to process and document the scene.

The body of the deceased was moved to Life Care Hospital Morgue pending post-mortem examination.

Both vehicles were detained at Chwele Police Station awaiting inspection.
