NAIROBI Kenya Oct 18-Leaders from the coastal region today held a meeting at Serena hotel to generate resolutions that will foster the unity and development of the region.

The meeting, presided over by the speaker of the Senate who is a former Governor of Kilifi county, Rt Hon Amason Jeffah Kingi, saw the attendance of Governors, senators, MPs and all the speakers of the county assemblies across the region.

“we come together as leadership of the coast region regardless of our political affiliations to announce our resolve to work together as a region for the benefit of the region,” said the leaders.

They leaders also promised to engage H.E the president of the republic of Kenya in developing development agendas in the region.

“We have resolved as leadership to engage H.E the president of the republic of Kenya in a structured manner for the purposes of formulating an all inclusive development agenda for the region,” the leaders stated.

The leaders also raised concern over the privatization of the Mombasa port and promised to discuss the matter with the president in a manner that the coastal people will have a say in the decisions made about the port.

“We have also resolved that there are matters of great urgency and importance that must be addressed now. We have decided to seek urgent audience with the H.E the president to discuss the issue of the port of Mombasa because as a people, our livelihoods and economies of the coastal counties are heavily dependent on the port activities.” They reiterated.

The leaders promised that despite their political affiliations, they will stick together and hold more meetings that will strengthen the unity of the region.
