The Chinese embassy in Nairobi has declared an extension of the visa applicants’ exemption from fingerprint collecting, providing a temporary relief for those who wish to visit China.
All applicants seeking single- or double-entry short-term visas to China during the timeframe that runs from September 2, 2024 to December 31, 2025 will not be required to submit to fingerprint collection.
A statement from the Chinese Embassy states that this temporary restriction is applicable to visitors who intend to stay in China for no longer than 180 days.
“All applicants who apply for single or double-entry short-term visas are exempt from the Embassy of China from September 2, 2024 to December 31, 2025,” the statement reads in part.
The exemption is based on making the application procedure for visas simpler and easier for Kenyan citizens. Business travelers, vacationers, and other transient visitors who frequently travel between Kenya and China may especially benefit from the move.

This move is a component of China’s larger initiatives to improve diplomatic and commercial relations with Kenya in order to promote greater travel and cooperation between the two countries.
The exemption is probably going to improve bilateral relations and strengthen Kenya’s burgeoning alliance with China.
