JEDCA Dec 2 – Birmingham City Football Club has made the decision to dismiss head coach Wayne Rooney, less than three years after appointing him.
Rooney, a Manchester United and England legend, was given a three-and-a-half-year contract but failed to deliver the desired results.
The club’s final straw came after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Leeds United on Monday.
In a statement, Birmingham expressed their commitment to success and stated that they had decided to move in a different direction.
Rooney, 38, took over from John Eustace on October 11 after Eustace was fired following 15 months in charge. Eustace had led the team to a promising start, sitting in fifth place with 18 points from 11 matches.
Since Rooney’s appointment, Birmingham has played 14 Championship games against various opponents such as Middlesbrough, Hull City, Southampton, Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Leicester City, Cardiff City, and Stoke City.
However, the team has only managed to secure two victories during Rooney’s tenure. They defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 and Cardiff City 1-0. Additionally, Rooney has led the team to four draws against Ipswich Town, Rotherham, Plymouth Argyle, and Bristol City.

Unfortunately, the team’s overall performance under Rooney’s leadership has been underwhelming. Out of a possible 45 points, Birmingham has only accumulated a meager ten.
As a result, they have dropped from fifth place to 20th place in the league standings, leading to Rooney’s dismissal.
“We are committed to doing what is necessary to bring success to St. Andrew’s. Unfortunately, Wayne’s time with us did not go as planned and we have decided to move to different direction,” said the club in a statement.
Although Birmingham City had high hopes for Rooney’s appointment, the reality of the team’s poor performance necessitated a change in direction.
The club is now seeking a new head coach who can help them achieve success and climb up the league table.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Rooney’s legacy as a legendary player remains intact, and his future in the world of football will undoubtedly continue to be a topic of interest and speculation.
