August 9 – Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has made changes to its top leadership after some of its members were nominated by President William Ruto to his cabinet.

President Ruto nominated ODM’s Deputy Party Leaders and former governors, Ali Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, to join the Cabinet as Ministers of Mining and Blue Economy, and Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, respectively.

Additionally, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi was nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum, while ODM Chairman John Mbadi was tapped for the role of Cabinet Secretary for Treasury.

Following their nominations, the four leaders resigned from both the party and their leadership roles within ODM, prompting the party to make changes.

Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has been appointed the new Minority Leader, replacing Opiyo Wandayi. Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has been appointed as the new Minority Whip. Meanwhile, Caleb Amisi has taken over as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chair, replacing John Mbadi.

The deputy party leader positions remain vacant, with several ODM leaders appearing to be frontrunners for the roles. Among those expressing interest are Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.
