(JEDCA MEDIA) November 16 – US President Joe Biden has announced that United States will “compete vigorously and reasonably” with China to protect its interests. This comes after Biden’s meeting with Xi Jinping, the President of China.

In his X (formerly twitter) post, Biden said that his meeting with Xi took tangible steps in the right direction adding that his previous stand remains unchanged.

“Today President Xi and I took tangible steps in the right direction, and the case I’ve made all along stands. The United States will compete vigorously and reasonably, with the People’s Republic of China,” Biden said in his X post.

He added, ” We will protect our national security interests (and) stand for our values. And we will work together where it is possible and in our interests.”

In October 2023, US released footage of more than 180 Chinese intercepts of US fighter jets in the skies above the Western Pacific over the past two years. Some of the Chinese fighter jets flew within 10 feet of US fighter jets, a move that US said it can cause collision and eventually conflict.

However, in an earlier post on X, Biden said that US and People’s Republic of China are going to resume military communication in a move that Biden termed as vital in preventing conflict.

“Today, I’m announcing that the US and PRC (People’s Republic of China) are resuming military-to-military communication. Clear and open communication between our defense establishment is vital to avoid miscalculations by either side and prevent conflict,” US president said in his tweet.

This happens yet China has not ruled out possible invasion of Taiwan, a country which US has vowed support incase China invades. This became evident in 2022 when former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan to show America’s solidarity.
