On February 2, 2025, a United Airlines flight from Houston to New York was evacuated after the plane caught fire on the runway due to an engine issue. Passengers were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas, just after 8:30 a.m. A video obtained by FOX 26 Houston and seen by JEDCA MEDIA shows flames visible on the plane’s wing. In the footage, a flight attendant can be heard instructing passengers to remain seated, while one traveler exclaims, “No, it’s on fire!”
Passengers were immediately taken out of the plane and were carried to the terminal by a bus, the FAA statement added. The flight with 104 passengers and five crew members has been rescheduled to take off at 12:30 p.m. local time.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene but reported that they did not have to extinguish a fire related to the incident. A replacement aircraft was arranged to transport the passengers to their destination.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched investigation to find out what cause the engine fire. This event adds to recent aviation safety concerns, following two major aviation mishaps in the country.
Sixty-seven people died when a military helicopter and an American Airlines plane collided in Washington, D.C. Additionally, seven people died and 19 were injured when a medical transport plane crashed near a busy mall in Philadelphia on Friday.
United Airlines has not yet released an official statement regarding the incident. Passengers praised the crew’s prompt response, which ensured a safe evacuation without injuries.
