Several humanitarian organizations together with the Bloggers association of Kenya has condemned the abduction and assault of Mombasa blogger.

In a press statement on 30th September 2024, the Kenya section of the international commission of jurists (ICJ KENYA), UTU WETU Trust, Bloggers association of Kenya (BAKE) and Wangu Kanja foundation called out for justice for the assault and attack meted on Mombasa blogger.

“We, the Kenyan section of the international commission of jurists (ICJ Kenya), UTU WETU Trust, Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) Wangu Kanja Foundation strongly condemn the heinous abduction and brutal assault of BK, which occurred on 12 September 2024, in Bamburi Mwisho, Mombasa county,” The statement reads.

This attack is allegedly linked to his post on X criticizing Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif. The organizations stated that this crime was done in attempt to unlawfully silence his constitutional rights of expression to an extent of violating BK’s personal right.

They went ahead and applaud BK for the bold move of reporting the matter despite the physical and psychological torture imposed by the attackers, and also the Kenya police for following on the matter and charging the people responsible.

A thorough investigation is vowed to be done on coastal general and referral hospital on questions after the alleged reports of denying medical attention to the victim. They are calling the government and health authority to ensure that BK gets necessary psychological and medical help while standing in solidarity with all survivors of violence, torture and gender based violence.
