Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has called for proper planning in Kenya’s sports sector to maintain competitive advantage. He said Kenya should take part in more sporting activities to boost the country’s chances of winning more medal.

Speaking at the National Olympic Sports Workshop held in Sagana, Murkomen emphasized the importance of evaluating the country’s performance at the Paris Olympics and preparing for future events, including the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics.

The CS said the government is commitment to expanding various sporting disciplines through enhanced support for athletes, improved coaching, and the adoption of modern scientific practices in sports.

“It’s worth noting that Kenya qualified athletes for Judo and Fencing in the Paris Olympics for the first time in history, a feat on which we seek to build,” Murkomen remarked.

He also urged sports federations to improve accountability to boost performance and attract more private sector investment, assuring them of his full support in raising the standards of sports in the country.
