The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for a three day pause of the fighting in Gaza for a vaccination operation targeting hundreds of thousands of children on Sunday.
This comes after WHO confirmed a first case of type 2 poliovirus on 23 August the first in 25 years in the territory.
Additionally, the virus is said to have paralyzed a 11 months old baby.
“The way we discussed and agreed, the campaign will start on the first of September, in central Gaza, for three days, and there will be a humanitarian pause during the vaccination,” said Rik Peeperkorn, the World Health Organization’s senior official for the Region.

The “humanitarian pause” is set to take effect in three regions Central Gaza , the Southern part followed by the Northern part respectively with the South and Northern parts getting their own three day pause
The operation aims to vaccinate about 640,000 children under the age of ten providing them with the novel oral polio vaccine.
