Dadaab MP Farah Maalim has said that President William Ruto performance is better than that of his predecessors, despite the growing discontent that Kenyans have on Kenya Kwanza regime.

Maalim said Ruto’s regime had reversed the sinking of Kenyan currency against the dollar, adding that the shilling is getting stronger despite the protests which rocked the country in June and July.

He said other countries that experienced protests, including Nigeria and Bangladesh, have seen their currencies plummet against the dollar.

“President William Ruto has performed better than any other President before him in the first two years of office. The Kenya shilling gained massively against all other convertible currencies and continues to get stronger in the midst of all those protests,” Maalim wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) post.

Maalim who was against Gen Z protests, further said Kenya Kwanza regime has replaced “debilitating” Chinese loans and Eurobond borrowed by Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.

“He [Ruto] has borrowed from WB {World Bank} and IMF to retire debilitating Chinese loans and Eurobond borrowed by his predecessor. Both Nigerian and Bangladesh currencies lost big time after protests,” he said in X post.

He further said that the government has cut down on wastage and ensured Kenyans secure employment opportunities abroad.

“Ruto reduced Government spendings to tame wastage beginning with his and First Lady’s offices. Record numbers of Kenyans have found employment outside the country.” Maalim added.

In the coffee, tea and sugar sectors, Maalim said under Ruto’s government, the said sectors have grown. He asked Kenyans to give Ruto time to work.

“The coffee and tea sectors are picking up tremendously. The sugar sector is equally cruising towards self sufficiency. Let’s give Ruto space to perform. One wonders why under Uhuru, Kenyans didn’t raise the issues they are raising now & protest. To be fair the economy is today doing better than it did 3 years back,” his X post reads.

Maalim’s praise to the Ruto-led government comes at the backdrop of massive protests against Finance Bill 2024, which later morphed into anti-government protests.

The protests were mainly led by young people (Gen Zs) who demanded government transparency, accountability, and to end rampant corruption within the regime.

Gen Zs also fought to oust corrupt government appointees including Cabinet Secretaries.

In response president Ruto dissolved his cabinet bringing in Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members to be part of his cabinet.
