‘You must never remain anonymous’, Ruto tells Gen Zs

President William Ruto has now challenged demonstrators to step up for dialogue, demanding that they must never remain anonymous.

Ruto who spoke during a church service in Sotik, Bomet county Sunday said that unnamed individuals who are sponsoring and orchestrating the protesters to come out and give the government alternative views.

“I want to challenge those who are sponsoring, orchestrating [and] funding this violence to step forward and give us their alternative views on how to take Kenya forward,” Ruto said.

“They must no remain anonymous, they must no remain formless or faceless, they must step forward. We cannot surrender our democracy to faceless, formless, anonymous anarchists,” the head of state declared.

This came a day before Tuesday protests set to be held across the country as the you push the state to crack down on corruption and demanding for the rights of fellow youths who died during the demonstration.

According to Kenya Human Rights Commission, more than 50 youths have died as a result of excessive use of force by police.

Hundreds of other youths are nursing bullet wounds that they sustained when police opened fire at them.

President Ruto had called Gen Z to the dialogue table, a move that ODM leader Raila Odunga has endorsed. However Odinga has laid out demands that he says must be acted upon before commencing the dialogue.

ODM boss wants the state to release all the youths arrested during the demonstration to be released unconditionally, families of fallen youth to be compensated as well as footing hospital bills for those who are still in hospitals.

The president said he has conceded enough demands from Gen Z.

Gen Z demands included, withdrawal of the controversial finance bill 2024, firing of corrupts government officials and recovery of government funds, justice for the youth killed during the protests and reconstitution of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) among other demands.

The UDA party leader withdrew finance bill 2024, okayed the process of reconstitution of IEBC as well as firing all cabinet secretaries except Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

However, the president has brought back six of the fired cabinet in the first patch cabinet nominees.

Ruto who in the recent past put on a conciliatory tone when approaching Gen Z demands now says “enough is enough” of protests and that no more chaos will be witnessed in the country.

The Gen Z protestors has claimed to be partyless, leaderless and tribeless, with their demands being raised on social media.

A section of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition lead by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka distanced themselves from Kenya Kwanza’s calls for dialogue, arguing that Gen Z demands are straight forward and does not require any dialogue for it to be implemented.
