Interior CS declares Monday 17 June a public holiday

In a gazette notice, the CS noted that the declaration was made in line with the celebration of Eid-Al-Adha by the Muslim community.

The declaration was also made in line with the powers bestowed on the CS by the Public Holidays Act.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, declares Monday, the 17th June, 2024, shall be a public holiday to mark Eid-Al-Adha,” read the notice in part.

Prophet Ibrahim is remembered for his dedication and willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail. As part of the celebrations, Muslims will sacrifice an animal and share the meat with those who are disadvantaged in the community.

Notably, Eid-ul-Adha comes after the Eid-al-Fitr celebration which is used to mark the completion of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr was celebrated early in the year on April 10.
