AGNES NGETICH

JEDCA SPORTS, JAN 15 – Kenyan athlete Agnes Jebet Ngetich broke another world record in 10 kilometers race  by achieving a feat of 28 minutes and 43 seconds at the Valencia road race in Spain, media reported.

“I’m so delighted to have run my personal best, which is also a world record time. I had trained well, and I was in good shape coming to this race. The weather conditions were favorable and that is why I managed to register good results,” she was quoted by the outlet as saying.

Jebet also became the first woman in history to break the 29-minute barrier. Other Kenyan runners, Emmaculate Anyango and Lilian Rengeruk Kasai, reportedly finished second and third in 28:57 and 29:35, respectively.

Jebet and Anyango outran the leading group together, but Jebet accelerated and led all the way to the finish line.

“Last year, my time wasn’t ratified by the World Athletics because of technical issues, but that gave me enough reasons to work hard. The record is now mine, and I believe I will make the team for the World Cross Country Championships where I want to upgrade the bronze medal to either silver or gold in the senior category,” the record-breaker added.

Jebet achieved a feat last September when she completed the Brasov Running Festival in Romania in 29:24 minutes. Despite this being a world record, it was not officially recognized, as the distance was discovered to be less than 25 meters.
