NAIROBI, KENYA, NOV 1-The office of the Director of public prosecution has clarified that no case against pastor Ezekiel Odero has been closed.
According to the ODPP, Mr Odero was detained for 7 days upon his presentation, and further, the DPP sought an extension of custodial orders for a further 30 days which would enable the police to complete the investigation, and prevent potential interference of witnesses by Mr Odero.
“At an expiry of the seven days, the DPP sought an extension of custodial orders for further 30 days to enable police complete investigations, and more importantly to prevent potential interference of witnesses by Mr Odero,” the ODPP stated.
According to the ODPP, the court however admitted Mr Odero to a bond of Kshs 1.5 million with a condition not to interfere with witnesses and report on a weekly basis to the investigators.
The ODPP has stated that they saw no need for Mr Odero to keep attending court or the police station as they were satisfied that the court orders facilitating investigations had already served their purpose thus when the matter came up for mention on 31st October 2023, the court closed the custodial file.
The ODPP has further assured that it will make a decision as regards to the results of the investigation as soon as the review thereof is complete, and shall only make the decision to charge where the evidential and public interest threshold have been met.
