Stanbic Bank has appointed Dr. Joshua Oigara as its new Regional Chief Executive (RCE) for East Africa, effective September 1, 2025, subject to regulatory approval.
Dr. Oigara, who currently serves as Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Kenya, will take on the additional regional responsibilities while retaining his current role.
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joshua Oigara as Regional Chief Executive, East Africa, effective 1st September 2025,” the bank said in a statement.
“Dr. Oigara will continue to serve as Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Kenya, while taking on the additional RCE responsibilities.” The bank added.

The appointment comes as Patrick Mweheire, who has held the RCE position for the past five years, steps down on August 31, 2025. Mweheire will, however, continue to serve as Chief Executive of Stanbic Kenya Holdings.
Who is Joshua Oigara?
Dr. Oigara is a seasoned banker with over two decades of leadership experience in the financial services sector.
Before joining Stanbic in 2022, he served as the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Group for nearly a decade, where he spearheaded its regional expansion and digital transformation agenda.
During his tenure at KCB, Oigara was credited with strengthening the bank’s profitability, expanding into new markets, and deepening financial inclusion across East Africa.
At Stanbic, he has focused on driving innovation, corporate governance, and sustainable financing solutions.
