It was 7th of July 2021 when Haiti President Jovenel Moise was assassinated at around 1:00 local time in the capital city of Port-Au-Prince. However, detailed have emerged that his wife allegedly planned the assassination.

According to police report, Moise was attacked by 28 gunmen who got access to his residence in unclear circumstances since the president’s premises are guarded by highly trained personnel.

The 28 gunment entered the residence and seven of them entered Moise’s bedroom where he was resting with his wife Martine Moise. They shot the president 12 times both on the head and stomach, killing him instantly. His wife was shot on the arm and thigh and survived the attack.The police pursued the gunmen and killed three of them.

After the death of Moise, Haiti erupted into chaos which swept through the country. Thousand of people filled the streets demanding justice for their president. In one interview, President Moise’s wife expressed hope that her husband gets justice.

“Hope that my husband will find justice. Every country that can help, please help because the people who [killed the president] are still out there and I don’t know if their name will ever be out….. I won’t stop asking for justice until justice if found,” Martine said.

According to Haiti police, Colombian mercenaries undertook the heinous attacking, robbing Haitians of their president. However, details have emerged that the assassination was a plot to kill the president and taking over of the government.

Nearly three years later, the president’s wife has been accused of planning the assassination in a plot to replace him. In a 122-page document, a Haitian judge says that Martine worked with former Haiti prime minister Claud Joseph to kill the president. The document says she wanted to be president.

The prosecutor ordered the arrest and trial of Martin and Claude Joseph together with other suspects named in the document.

Claude Joseph and Martine has termed the courts judgement a political play arguing that the only people who benefited in the death of president Moise is the current Prime Minister Ariel Henry who also serves as acting president.

Since the death of Jovenel Moise, Haiti has seen increased violence and high insecurity putting Haiti police and gangs attacks loggerheads almost all time. The country has not conducted any election which made to be unstable politically and economically.
