Western Kenya Reaps Big From Ruto Developmental tour

President William Ruto flanked by deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang Nyong'o during the launch of ultra-modern Nyabondo Trauma Centre.

The Western Kenya region has benefitted much from Major developments that have been launched by President Ruto in the area.

Counties that have so far benefited from the development tour include; Siaya, Homabay,Migori and Kisumu county.

Beginning the tour in Kakamega on the 17th of August, the president commissioned the Malava Cluster Water Supply Project in Namanja. Which is expected to have a daily capacity supply of 1.2 million litres.

This project will serve over 100,000 people in Chemuche, East Kabras,South Kabras, Shirugu Mugai, Butali Chegulo and Manda Shivanga wards.

In Migori county specifically in Kegonga , William Ruto launched the Kegonga Cluster Water Supply Project that will produce about 1.8 million litres a day benefitting more than 14,000 households.

Later in Nyatike , he rolled out the Lower Kuja Irrigation Project that will irrigate 19,000 acres of land and produce about 80,000 tonnes of rice each year. In the same county.

He further commissioned the upgrading of link roads in Suna East Constituency.

In Homabay County, Oyugis Water project has been commissioned that will benefit the residents of Kabondo Kasipul and Kasipul. Other ongoing water projects in the region include;Kendu Bay and West Karachuonyo.

In Siaya County at Magenta Island, the president commissioned a solar grid project, which is part of the Kenya Electricity Modernisation Project (KEMP) World Bank project, that aims to increase access of electricity to off-grid areas.

The project is estimated to support about 1,700 households.

William Ruto went ahead to break ground for the construction of the Siaya Integrated Modern Market Hub Phase I in Alego Usonga that will provide spacious and conducive working spaces to more than 1,000 traders in Siaya Town and beyond.

He also launched the construction of 11 more markets in the area to aid in moving farm produce.

Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Alego Usonga Affordable Housing Project, an 882-unit residential facility that will offer modern living spaces equipped with essential amenities and infrastructure.

Later that day, he officially commissioned the Usonga Siriwo Rice Mill that will facilitate increased food production in Siaya and Busia Counties.

He laid the foundation stone for the construction of the 2,384-unit Lumumba Estate Affordable Housing Project in Kisumu Central and commissioned the Lake Basin Development Authority Rice Mill Project in Kibos.

The plant, with a processing capacity of 4,000 tonnes an hour, will promote rice cultivation in the more than 6,000 acres in Chiga, East Kano, and West Kano schemes, supporting more than 10,000 households.

With the need to improve safety in the Fishing region, the president broke ground for the Lake Victoria Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, which will aid in research and will be central in ensuring the waters are safe and any emergencies are handled quickly.

In Nyakach constituency, with Deputy President, Governors led by Anyang’ Nyong’o, MPs and MCAs, William Ruto commissioned the ultra-modern Nyabondo Trauma Centre which epitomises the Government’s commitment to the roll-out of the Universal Health Coverage.

The 150-bed capacity specialised facility — fitted with theatres, Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit — enhances access to quality and affordable care to more than 5 million people in Nyanza Region.

The Western Kenya development tour follows after the President toured the Kisii, Nandi and Mt.Kenya regions.
