Police on Friday arrested four suspects in connection with the theft of 16 tonnes of aluminium cables worth Ksh6 million from Kenya Power and Lighting Company which were recovered at a go-down in Embakasi area, Nairobi. The suspects were apprehended following a tip-off by members of the public. According to police, the aluminum cables were found concealed in a container inside the go-down. The suspects were taken into police custody and are set to be arraigned in court to face charges of theft and vandalism.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Principal Secretary Alex Wachira, the aluminium conductors were brought and carefully cut into small pieces. They were then smelted at night then made into window panels in the wee hours of the morning. He further stated that the directors of the company and the person who bought the conductors will be charged with vandalism.

Wachira thanked the public for providing information regarding the go-downs and promised to act firmly in finding other suspects involved in the incident. The incident comes a week after the arrest of a Chinese woman who was found with copper and aluminium cables allegedly vandalized from KPLC.

In a separate incident, police from Langata Police Station recovered suspected stolen mobile phones and laptops from a shop in the Sara-Ngombe area. The suspect was arrested after police received information linking the suspect to the stolen gadgets. He was found with over 113 mobile phones which are believed to have been stolen. The gadgets were recovered from the suspect’s shop. He was taken into police custody and is set to be arraigned in court to face charges of theft.

The police are calling on members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. They are also urging the public to provide any information that may aid in the fight against crime in their localities.

In Kakamega, two robbery with violence suspects escaped from police custody at Kakamega police station. The suspects, Denis Indeche and Allan Kemoli are considered extremely dangerous and have been on the run for hours now. Indeche in particular was being hunted by police for his alleged involvement in several armed robberies, including an attack on a senior DCI officer. Police are urging members of the public to be vigilant and report any sightings. Two police officers who were on duty at the time of the jailbreak have been taken into custody to assist with investigations.
