US Secretary of State to visit Israel in solidarity against Palestine’s Hamas Militants

US secretary of State Antony Blinken is set visit to Israel on Thursday to show solidarity with Israel in the ongoing Israel-Palestine war.

This comes as Israel-Palestine war enters the 5th day as the number of casualties rises sharply. At least 1,200 civilians have been killed in Israel since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on 7th of October 2023. Hamas also kidnapped several Israeli soldiers and civilians including children and are holding them hostage in Gaza.

In retaliation, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been firing thousands of missiles to Gaza Strip killing more than 1,100 civilians including children and destroying buildings in Gaza.

The war has also seen Israel blockading the entry of essential commodies to Gaza including food and medicine in a attempt to weaken Hamas Group despite the calls for humanitarian organizations pleading the two warring sides to open a humanitarian corridor. Electricity has also been cut off by Israel.

In statement in his X account (formerly twitter), Antony Blinken said that United States will support Israel in the war by equipping them with ammunition to defend themselves.

“In the days ahead, we will continue to stand with our Israeli partners. As I head to Israel, I will be working to ensure they are equipped to defend themselves and making sure any hostile parties know they must not seek to take advantage of the situation,” Blinken wrote in his X post.

What is Hamas Group?

Hamas Group is a political party in Palestine which governs the Gaza Strip. The group has a military wing that is responsible for the attacks of 7th of October in Israel.

The attacks on Israel has been seen as vengeance for Palestine whose territories have been inhabited by Israeli settlers.
