Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimiru on Wednesday convicted Fred Makallah Leparan and Selina Awuoe Adundo who were accused of child trafficking at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Embakasi Central in Nairobi two years ago. The two were charged with the offences of selling Children from the aforementioned facility.

In 2021, an international media house (BBC) aired an expose in which Fred was caught selling a child for Ksh300,000. “Three children were transferred to a buyer who was a BBC undercover agent,” ODPP stated.

In her judgement, Kimiru said that the court was satisfied that the prosecution led by Caroline Karimi and Linda Ndambiri proved the case beyond reasonable doubt against the two accused persons.

Fred Makallah was convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit a felony, namely trafficking in persons, three counts of trafficking in persons, and three of child neglect while his accomplices Selina Adundo was convicted of three counts of child neglect. “However, the court acquitted her on a count of conspiracy to commit a felony, as well as three counts of trafficking in persons,” ODPP stated.
