The Federation of Kenya employers in collaboration with ADMI and Nexford University have launched a skills need survey report on what employers focus on while hiring.


“We aim to build capacity of employers, train providers to skill gaps. Employees have proven to focus on soft skills like problem solving, effective communication and team work during the employment process” Said the Executive Director of Federation of Kenya employers, Mrs. Jacqueline Mugo.

She further stated that FKE will be upfront on supporting graduates to get employment opportunities.

“We have analyzed over 36 million job vacancies that need to be filled” The founder of Nexford University Mr Fadl Al Tarz notes.


The research was done in 4 regions that is Nairobi recording a 58.3%,Coast region 8.1%,Western 4 4%.

Further the 521 enterprises who took part in the study showed that employers need people with technical skills like computer usage and foreign language proficiency, Bachelor degrees holders , TVET skills like plant operations, electrical wiring, building and construction

Additionally their main focus is on soft and social skills like effective communication, critical thinking, teamwork and creativity while hiring.


The report recommended that employers, government, trade unions and training institutions to promote initiatives, practices and policies that will enhance demand oriented approach to skills development.
