Stop sacking Teachers, Gachagua tells TSC

NAIROBI, KENYA, DEC 6 – The deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has disagreed with the move by the Teachers Service Commission to lay off teachers from North Eastern Kenya who refused to resume duty due to security concerns, stressing that teachers have a choice of preferred areas of working.

Addressing the Kenya National Union of Teachers(KNUT) National delegates conference today, the deputy president has requested the commission to generate resolutions that will favour every region.

The Deputy president has spotlighted that the terrorist attacks incidences have greatly contributed to the fleeing of teachers and disruption of learning.

He has assured that the government has layed down measures in terrorist-prone areas, so as to restore peace and create a peaceful learning environment for both teachers and students.

“Some parts of our country have faced security challenges, which have led to fleeing of teachers disrupting learning. Some of these areas include the North Rift and the Kenya-Somalia Border.” The deputy president said.

“I take this moment to confirm to you that security of the North Rift and other areas prone to terrorism are on our radar and we will not relent until peace is restored and the gangs are silenced,” Added the deputy president.

The deputy president has said that a disarmament exercise is being taken as one of the measures to erase terrorism presence in those areas.
