NAIROBI, KENYA, OCT 20 – A stampede witnessed today morning at Kericho Green stadium has claimed four lives while leaving thirteen others injured. The stampede resulted from lady selling tea around Kericho Green Stadium.

The lady who was selling tea near gate C of the stadium accidentally spilled tea in fire generating panic where the members of the public mistook the incident as a teargas thrown to them.

“There was a stampede caused by a lady who was selling tea outside the stadium who accidentally spilled hot tea in the fire near gate “C” along the public roads, as a result members of public panicked and mistook it to be a teargas thrown to the,” stated the Kericho East Sub County police station in a statement regarding the incident.

The incident happened today at 0300 hrs. Many sustained injuries as they rushed to seek refuge in the stadium and were immediately rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital using station motor vehicles and county government ambulances.

Unfortunately, the hospital has confirmed that four unknown females lost their lives and have been taken to the morgue pending identification and postmortem. 

However the hospital has also stated that the injured victims are receiving treatment in the hospital and are in a stable condition.
