President William Ruto is set to officially launch Raila Odinga’s continental campaign for the AUC chair on Tuesday, 27th August at Statehouse, Nairobi.
The launch will unveil Raila Odinga as the country’s official candidate for the run of chairmanship at the African Union Commission.
President Ruto is also expected to name a team of strategists that will work with Raila Odinga to aid in regional campaigns.

Elections date
AUC chairperson elections will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in February 2025 to choose the commission’s fifth chairperson, elected through secret ballot.
The winner of the majority votes will succeed Moussa Faki, former Chad politician and diplomat.
In the previous leadership of AUC, authority has been held by the central ,southern and western regions of the continent.
African Union executive council asserted East Africa’s right to provide candidates for the election.
North Africa having a chance to vie for deputy chairperson of AUC, succeeding Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa of Rwanda.

Election contenders
Raila Odinga will contest against Anil Gayan of Mauritius, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti and Richard Randriamandrato of Madagascar.
Twenty countries in the continent have endorsed Raila Odinga for the AUC chairmanship , with the East Africa Community being at the forefront.
EAC heads have been invited to Nairobi, Kenya to grace Raila’s unveiling. Dignitaries expected to be there include presidents for Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic republic of Congo, Somali, Burundi, Rwanda and South Sudan.
