Pavel Durov Arrested in France Over Telegram App Controversy

Russian tech billionaire Pavel Durov and the founder of the telegram messaging app was arrested on Saturday in France by French authorities. in what they termed was a part of investigations over various crimes witnessed on the app.

The telegram CEO arrest was confirmed after being detained at the le Bourget Airport where he had landed with this private plane.

The arrest comes after an arrest warrant was issued by a French organization Ofmin which deals with protection of children against violence.

A probe into the offenses committed by the messaging app suggested that there was a lack of moderation which has led then to dissemination of child pornography, fraud and drug trafficking.

Confirming the arrest of Pavel Durov, French president Emmanuel macron took to his X account formerly stating “This is in no way a political decision. It is up to the judges to decide.”

“it is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner is responsible for abuse of that platform”. telegram said in a statement citing that it’s operation “is within industry standards and constantly improving”.
