Police have arrested a clergyman suspected to swindle over Ksh2 million to the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Mwea town church which was meant for the procurement of seats. The DCI stated that on February 9 this year, the church contracted Apostle blessed Gilbert Kariuki and his spouse to deliver 410 seats to the church on or before April 10 but neither delivered nor showed up. According to reports, Kariuki disappeared soon after the incident and all attempts to locate him had proven futile. The church vicar further filed a report in Wang’uru police station regarding the matter.
“As reported by the church faithful at Wang’uru police station, the man of the cloth swindled them their money before disappearing,” DCI stated. Upon receiving the report, police immediately swung into action and successfully apprehended the suspect.
However, Kariuki was arraigned at Wang’uru law court on Monday where he answered to charges of obtaining money by false pretence.
This comes after the interior CS Kithure Kindiki asked the churches to partner with the government in exposing the rogue preachers who are hiding behind the holy scriptures to cause untold suffering to the people. He termed them as criminals, and thieves that must be flushed out at all cost.
