Passport seekers in the country are likely to face a long wait in the wake of the printer breakdown at Nyayo house, Nairobi.

One of the machines that normally prints the 34, 50 and 66 page passport booklet is reported to have broken down two months ago with the government yet to repair the machine setting precedence to an array of inconveniences to passport seekers in the country.

Officials intimate to the happenings at Nyayo House told JEDCA MEDIA that only a small machine that prints the 34-page passport is operational at the moment, adding that is working at optimal capacity owing to the enormous pressure mounted on it. ”It’s true there is a problem with passport issuance at Nyayo House in Nairobi. We need to invest in modern printers to sort out the problem,“ said the source pleaded for anonymity.

The source further indicated that the printing of the 66-page and 50-page passports have been scuttled owing to the shortage of passport booklets at Nyayo House adding that the booklets were only sourced for by the immigration department Friday.

The demand for passports have recently skyrocketed in the country with Kenyans lining up at Nyayo house headquarters to get the coveted document.

The sources further intimates that the immigration department is faced with a backlog of 300,000 passports that are yet to be printed to date.
