MTN Group has partnered with UK-based video software firm Synamedia to launch a new video streaming platform aimed at mobile and fibre users across Africa.
The move marks MTN’s official entry into the competitive streaming market, taking on regional players like Showmax as well as global giants including Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime.
The new service is part of MTN’s broader push to evolve beyond traditional telecoms into a digital-first business offering a suite of technology and entertainment services.
“We see a unique opportunity to transform video consumption in Africa with high-quality, accessible, and relevant content,” said Selorm Adadevoh, Group Chief Commercial Officer at MTN Group.

The platform, which will be powered by Synamedia’s cloud-based video technologies, will offer a mix of paid subscription services and free ad-supported channels.
MTN plans to localize the platform for each of its markets, tailoring content and monetization models to suit regional demand.
With a footprint in 19 African countries and a subscriber base of over 290 million, MTN is well positioned to scale the new platform across diverse markets.
