Police have arrested 3 suspects who are believed to be selling illicit brews in Marena village, Kambiti, Murang’a county. The officers conducted a crackdown of the brew on Saturday, in collaboration with the local administration and members of public at the homestead of Njuguna. Police said that the operation led to seizure of 83 creates of Santa king ice believed to be counterfeit alcohol. “The operation led to seizure of 83 crates of Santa King Ice believed to be a counterfeit alcohol, five crates without stickers, and arrest of three female suspects,” police said.
Additionally,5 creates without stickers were also discovered. The suspects are in custody waiting to be taken to court.
In a major breakthrough in the fight against illicit brews in Kiambu, a multi-agency team conducted an operation in Gitaru area on 27 May and at the homestead of one Wanjuhi, and seized assorted items including rolls of KRA stamps, several boxes of suspected counterfeit alcoholic drinks with different brand names, distilling machines and several empty boxes as well as bottles tops. Two female suspects Donatha and Grace were also arrested. “Rolls of KRA stamps, several boxes of suspected counterfeit alcoholic drinks with different brand names, distilling machines and several empty machines discovered,” police said.
This comes at the time when Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is leading in the fight against illicit brews in the Mount Kenya region where young people have been losing their lives to alcohol. He has urged the local administration to take a stand against the illicit alcohol that has had a negative impact on the youth.
The operation is a major step forward in the fight against illicit brews in Kiambu and it is hoped that it will help to reduce the number of young people who are losing their lives to alcohol.
