The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed another case of Monkeypox (Mpox) disease in Kenya, bringing the number of infected persons to three.

In a statement signed by Director General for Health Patrick Amoth, the third Mpox case was recorded in Nairobi, adding that the patient has a history of travel to Uganda recently.

“The ministry would like too inform the public of a third laboratory confirmed case of {Mpox} disease in Nairobi. The patient is a 30-year-old female with history of travel to Uganda in one week,” the statement reads in part.

However, the ministry said that the patient is in stable condition and she is being monitored in isolation unit. The health ministry said that active surveillance is ongoing in the country to ensure that spread of the disease is controlled.

One recovery

Health ministry also confirmed the recovery of one Mpox patient. It said that the patient has fully recovered and has been discharged.

“We are pleased to announce that the second patient diagnosed with Mpox in Kenya has fully recovered and has been discharged from the facility,” MOH statement reads.

MOH said the earlier two case of Mpox were detected in Taita Taveta and Busia counties, adding that the ministry has tested 89 samples with 79 turning out negative, three positive and seven others undergoing analysis.

It also said it has screened more that 500,000 travelers in 26 designated Posts of Entry across Kenya, adding that it’s working with other government agencies to contain the spread of Mpox disease.

Prevention measures

MOH urges citizens to exercise caution and follow recommended prevention measures including regularly washing hands, using sanitizers, general hygiene and to visit the nearest health facility if one exhibits Mpox signs and symptoms.
