Manchester United have launched a £55 million swoop for Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount. The 24-year-old is also being sought by Merseyside club Liverpool and London based football club Arsenal as he enters the final year of his contract at Chelsea with his future under increasing uncertainty due to some reasons. With the 24-year-old due to enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer. Talks between player and club have progressed little, with the midfielder unwilling to sign a long-term deal.
However the report adds that their bid will fall way short of Chelsea’s valuation, believed to be around £85million. United Kingdom media reports that Mount’s preference would be to secure a switch to Old Trafford as he aims to prove his quality, with talks expected between the clubs in due course. It is also claimed that other clubs chasing Mount are aware of his preference to join Manchester based club.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is keen on adding quality to his midfield as he prepares his squad for 2023/2014 premier season with a ball-playing midfielder second on his summer shopping list behind a typical centre-forward or goal-scorer. Mason’s decision could still be affected by who takes charge at Stamford Bridge over the summer with Mauricio Pochettino set to take over from interim boss Frank Lampard who will leave at the end of the season.
The report states that one of England leading goal-scorer Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen from Napoli will be pursued with both eating up a huge junk of the transfer budget. A number of slightly cheaper targets such as Rasmus Hojlund, Evan Ferguson and Dusan Vlahovic can add competition and spread the goal-scoring burden which was experienced this season by current Red devils attackers.
