Nairobi – Kenya Wildlife Servic (KWS) has come out to dispel the false nformation circulating on social media regarding the alleged mining activities in the Tsavo East National Park.
The communication department clarified that the information was wrong and that there is no mining taking place in the park.
Tsavo is home to huge number of wild animals, vast herds of dust –red elephant, Rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, pods of hippo, crocodiles, waterbucks, Lesser Kudu, Gerenuk and Hirola.
‘”The photos being shared are from Galana Kalalu food security Project, located in Galana ranch which is adjacent to Tsavo East National Park,” states the press release dated 12th August, 2024.

The Galana Kalalu food security project is being managed by Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) and spearheaded by the State Department of Irrigation in Galana Ranch.
It is mandated to enhance food security in Kenya through large-scale irrigation and sustainable farming practices. As part of the project,canals are being constructed to facilitate irrigation.
In January 2023, the President issued a directive for Galana Kulalu Food Security Project to move forward under implementation of the project through Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) arrangement models. The aspects to be implemented under PPP include: production on the already developed 10,000 acres, and an additional 10,000 acres in the medium term and Construction of Galana Dam to support another 350,000 acres for food production in the long term.
The KWS are still committed to the conservation and protection of our National Parks and wildlife heritage.
