Many of them have blamed the Telcos for what they call “collaboration” with fraudsters to swindle money from their accounts.

One Kenyan took to Tiktok to complain how she witnessed her money swindled.

She said she received a message that the money she had kept in Mshwari was transferred to Mpesa without her initiating the transaction. She decided to revert the money back to Mshwari and minutes later she received another messages indicating that she has transferred her Ksh17,000 to Mpesa, again without her initiating the transaction.

Minutes later, she received another message that the money has been transferred to a bank account which she does not own. And that is how her money was swindled leaving her with a lot of question. She tried reaching out to the telco to ascertain what happened in vain.

Molo Member of Parliament Kimani Kuria who is the chair of National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning has said that the committee will inquire on how Kenyans are losing money and provide solutions to it.

Kimani said concerns have been raised by those who lost money but nothing has been done to tackle it.

“We have had people lose money from their mobile applications and when this particular matter is raised, it has not been addressed,” he said adding that whenever a fraud incident is reported to the police no action is taken.
