Kenya Shujaa successfully defended their Safari Sevens title on Sunday evening in a closely fought final against Shogun Rugby at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half, with neither side able to break the deadlock as they battled fiercely for control.

Shujaa’s star player, Patrick Odongo, found little success in the opening half, as Shogun’s backline was well-prepared to neutralize his speed, stopping him before he could get into full stride.

Kenya came close to scoring when George Ooro almost secured the first try of the game but narrowly missed as he stepped out of the try-box.

In the second half, Shujaa came out with renewed intensity, taking the fight to Shogun. Odongo’s pace finally proved unstoppable as he dashed for the try line after receiving a well-timed off-load from Dennis Abukuse following a strong scrum.

Odongo outpaced Shogun’s defense, leaving them behind as he crossed the try-line to score Kenya’s opening try.

Shujaa’s title defense was further sealed by Ben Salem, who broke through Shogun’s backline after receiving a brilliant off-load from Samuel Asati, securing Kenya’s second try and ending the game with a 12-0 victory
