Athletics Kenya has partnered with The Housing Fund Company to offer its athletes tens of thousands of homes and financial literacy on how to own the affordable houses. The partnership will see the housing company provide home purchase financing to elite athletes and AK members at incentivized rates.
“Many times, we have heard and read of stories of sportsmen and women living in abject poverty despite bringing glory to the country. Many of them are struggling to pay rent or find that they are incurring a lot of expenses towards the same. With this new partnership, as an athlete, you are assured that you will always have a roof over your head,” AK president General (Rtd) Jack Tuwei said.
The sportsmen and women will be able to have direct connections to affordable housing developers and bulk allocation of government affordable housing projects through joint application to the state department of Housing and Urban Development.
This development raises questions and dilemmas against the backdrop of the three per cent housing levy that will be imposed on the working Kenyans, including athletes, if the financial bill is passed.
Tuwei however sees the partnership as a move for the good of all sportspersons in Kenya as they come to retire soon.
