Kenya is among the countries which have benefited from the Agence Francaise de Development(AFD) in transition to low-carbon economies and climate change around the globe. The organization’s aim was to enhance urban resident standard of living by promoting regional sustainability through improving quality life for city dwellers and promoting urban territorial development. Among the regions that have benefited with this program included Kahawa-Soweto, KCC village, Embakasi Sokono, Kambi Moto, and Kayole Soweto. Kayole-Soweto is among the top beneficiaries of the AFD project in the first KISIP (Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project) which led to construction of roads and drainage system that impacted the residence life. The organization further aided in installation of spotlights that attracted more investors in the area and also increased security in the area. A few supermarkets had also been opened in the region.
Speaking during a field trip in Kayole-Soweto, Charlete Le Layo (Regional Communications Manager of Easter Africa), showcased their plan saying that they aimed on improving and adding value to citizen’s life. “Our plan is to display a picture to the local authorities on investments which can benefit every citizen and which can add value in a given area,” she said. Additionally, the residents in Kayole-Soweto who benefitted from this program congratulated the organization for their effortless strive toward making their lives better as they witnessed the construction of roads that created job opportunities among other things.
