NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 20-The national police service has refuted the claims that they were responsible for the arrest of the Meru Governor Hon Kawira Mwangaza.

Through a press statement, National Police Service clarified that Governor Mwangaza voluntarily boarded the police vehicle and later disembarked from the same vehicle.

“The national police service wishes to refute to the claims that police arrested in Meru Governor, Hon. Kawira Mwangaza on oct 18 2023, and clarify to the public that the Governor of Meru on her own violation, boarded the police vehicle and thereafter voluntarily disembarked from the same vehicle,” National police statement read.

Further The police service stated that the Governor’s press statement did not mention any arrest on her other than stating that there was “heavy police” presence in her meeting that day.

They noted that they strictly follow the constitution article 239(3) which states that they shall not act in a partisan manner that, further any interest of apolitical party or clause; or prejudice a political interest or political cause that is legitimate to the constitution.

“The National police service therefore reaffirms its commitment to upholding high fidelity to the constitution, operational independence, impartiality and political neutrality in its role of maintaining the law and order,” The National police statement further reiterated.
