Siaya County Government faces uncertainty over the ongoing feud between Governor James Orengo and Deputy Governor William Oduol.
The dispute has reached an all-time high following a violent disruption at a funeral attended by the leaders in Alego Usonga Constituency on May 13, 2023.
“The climax was the ugly and violent disruption of a funeral attended by both governor James Olengo andhis deputy William Oduol on 13th may in Alego Usongo constituency,” said Opiyo.
Allegations of corruption and irregularities in the County Government have been a major concern in recent weeks, with Deputy Governor Oduol being the vocal accuser. However, a recent report by the Siaya County Assembly has called for solid evidence to back up the allegations.
“In the same period, the Siaya public, and indeed the entire nation has been treated to a litany of allegations of corruption and other irregularities,” Wandayi Opiyo said in a press statement.
The report has shed light on the evidently toxic relationship between the two leaders leading to a situation where quality service delivery to the people of Siaya is at risk. Deputy Governor Oduol has lost confidence in his government adding to the already tense situation.
As uncertainty looms over the Siaya County Government, stakeholders are calling for swift action to address the feud and safeguard the interests of the public. The people of Siaya deserve uninterrupted quality service delivery guaranteed.
