The government has joined forces with key private sector players in the agribusiness industry, including RooTooba, to spearhead preparations for the 2025 Financing Agri Food System (FINAS) summit.
The event is scheduled to take place from May 20 to 22 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, bringing together agriculture ministers, financial experts, agribusiness stakeholders, and development partners from across the continent.
The FINAS summit aims to enhance policies and financing mechanisms within the agribusiness sector by fostering collaboration between the government and private entities.
Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Rono emphasized the critical need for a sustainable financing model in the industry.
“The biggest challenge we have been facing is how to finance agriculture,” Rono stated.
“We feel there should be a streamlined legal framework to establish a sustainable way of financing agriculture.”
The event, themed ‘Sustainable Financing for Africa’s Agri-Food Systems’, will provide a platform for dialogue on innovative financing models, risk management solutions, and investment opportunities to boost food security and economic growth.

Additionally, stakeholders will deliberate on the challenges affecting cooperatives in the country to strengthen the 1,450 cooperatives currently operating nationwide.
The FINAS summit will also address strategies for marketing agricultural produce and promoting value addition to enhance the sector’s overall productivity and profitability.
Discussions will focus on improving supply chain efficiencies, leveraging digital platforms for market access, and developing policies that support agribusiness startups and smallholder farmers.
With preparations already underway, the summit is expected to lay the groundwork for transformative policies that will shape the future of agribusiness in Kenya and beyond.
Key partners include the Ministry of Agriculture, the African Development Bank, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and other regional and international stakeholders dedicated to advancing sustainable agricultural finance solutions.
