Gor Mahia walked home empty handed despite winning the league

Gor Mahia on Sunday won the 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title after coming from behind to thrash Nairobi City Stars in the season finale match which was played at Kasarani Stadium. After fighting hard to complete the 2022/2023 season, Football Kenya Federation Premier    League (FKFPL) winner walked home empty handed, After Nick Mwendwa revealed before the end of the the season. “There’s no money, and we won’t reward the league champions this season,” Mwendwa said in a recent interview.

“We will not have any prize giving, where is the money going to come from? This was just a rescue season. We might want to try and even have a gala, but we don’t have the statistics and a committee in place that should have been following players’ performance,” he added.

Gor Mahia went on to question the worth of trophy and medals awarded to players and technical bench by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) for winning the league title. The crowned Gor Mahia as the 2022/2023 champions in a way that everyone didn’t expect because it was pathetic for a team to awarded in such a way. During the awarding of Gor Mahia’s 20^th title, the team received their medals in the VIP area instead of the customary champion podium with an arc, red carpet, and Champions pause banner.
