The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has appointed former Nairobi City Stars CEO Patrick Korir as the interim Chief Executive Officer, following the recent resignation of Barry Otieno.

Otieno submitted his resignation over the weekend, with the federation confirming his departure, he has been succeeded by Korir on a temporary basis.

“Barry has decided to step down after years of dedicated service to Kenyan football. The Federation expresses its sincere gratitude for his contributions and wishes him all the best in his future endeavors,” read a statement from FKF.

Korir, who led Nairobi City Stars as CEO and helped the club secure its return to the FKF Premier League in 2020 while maintaining its top-flight status, will now take on the challenge of leading the federation, albeit in an interim role.

“Patrick brings a wealth of experience in Kenyan football, having served as a journalist, football coordinator, and, most recently, as the CEO of Nairobi City Stars,” the FKF statement continued.

“His in-depth understanding of the sport, combined with his management expertise, ensures he will quickly integrate into his new role, minimizing any disruption to FKF’s operations.

“The FKF remains committed to its mission of growing football at all levels and assures stakeholders that all scheduled activities and programs will proceed as planned. We believe that Patrick Korir will play a pivotal role in this transition and help steer the Federation toward even greater success.”

Barry Otieno, who was appointed CEO in 2019 to succeed Robert Muthomi, has previously held various roles within the federation. His resignation has fueled speculation that he may be eyeing the FKF presidency in the upcoming December 7 elections.
