Former Christ is the Answer Ministry (CITAM) Church Presiding Bishop David Oginde has been sworn in as the new Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairperson at the supreme court in a short ceremony that lasted slightly over an hour.

Oginde in his acceptance speech indicated that he is alive to the fact that corruption is bedeviling every sector of the country. “Let me at the onset acknowledge that corruption is our worst enemy in this country. It is deep rooted, it is widespread, it flies high to the heavens and continues to adversely impact every sector of our public life “said Oginde adding that there is no doubt that the government must work at taming corruption at all cost if the country is to join the league of nations.

Oginde further thanked his predecessor Eliud Wabukala who has been at the helm of the commission for six years. Oginde is joining the EACC at a time when all eyes are on the investigative authorities over the doomsday cult at Shakahola as well as massive withdrawal of court cases of politicians and subsequent permanent closure of them. He is set to grapple with all these.

While issuing the oath to the incoming EACC chairperson, chief Justice Martha Koome reminded Oginde of the vitality of the anti corruption commission in the country’s quest to uphold the rule of law. “You have a huge responsibility to lead an institution that is safeguarding public interest and promoting public confidence “said Koome.
