Hypermarket chain Carrefour Kenya has introduced its ‘Buy Kenya, Build Kenya’ initiative, aimed at enhancing local manufacturing.
Running until October 17, the campaign showcases a variety of Kenyan-made products, available both in-store and online, and encourages customers to support the country’s manufacturing sector by choosing domestic goods.
This effort follows recognition from the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA), which acknowledged Carrefour’s operator, Majid Al Futtaim, as a supporter of the ‘Made in Kenya’ brand. This recognition enables Carrefour to feature the ‘Made in Kenya’ label on its locally produced private label items, reflecting the company’s commitment to promoting local manufacturing.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director for East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, expressed satisfaction with the recognition, reinforcing Carrefour’s dedication to supporting Kenyan businesses.
On her part, KEPROBA CEO Floice Mukabana praised Carrefour’s efforts in backing local enterprises, noting that the ‘Made in Kenya’ label makes it easier for customers to identify and support Kenyan-made products, thus driving demand and growth.
Additionally, Carrefour’s collaboration with five local manufacturers has led to the creation of more than 48 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs), including detergents and personal care products under Carrefour’s private label. Carrefour says this aligns with rising consumer interest in sustainable, locally sourced goods and emphasizes the company’s positive impact on the local economy.
