The 25th of June 2024 anti-finance bill demonstration left dozens of Kenyan counting losses amounting to millions after rogue protesters looted their businesses.
Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) is the embodiment of the unprecedented looting spree which saw not only properties lost but premises heavily damaged.
In the morning of 26 June business people woke up to witness their business destroyed, some of which normalcy has not been restored.
The protesters-turned-robbers are reported to have taken time to break into businesses in CBD as police officers were trying to contain the protesters.
Quikmart, Eastmart and Naivas supermarkets were looted. The supermarket’s precincts remains closed. Workers were seen searching through the rubble to salvage valuables left.
Major streets in CBD bears full glare of Tuesday destruction. Electronic shops along Kimathi Street that on normal days displays electronics like laptops and phones, today, it displayed broken shelves and broken glass windows.
Politician’s businesses were not spared either. A club belonging to Kapseret member of Parliament Oscar Sudi was looted with protesters walking away with valuables in Eldoret. Businesses belonging to other members of parliament who voted ‘Yes’ to the controversial bill came down as protesters descended on them leaving them counting loses.
The aftermath of GenZ-led protests left many reeling in pain of loss not only lives but businesses alike.
