A university student who went missing on September 2 has been found dead in what police claim to be a drowning incident.

The decomposing body of the Maasai Mara University student was found floating along the River Narok, 10 kilometres from the school.

Police, with the help of Red Cross officials, retrived the body, which was then transported to the Narok County Referral Hospital morgue.

Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare confirmed the incident, saying the body was spotted floating in the river at the Morijoi area. The discovery of the body brought an end to the anxiety about the students’ whereabouts after she went missing on September 2 at 11 am.

The discovery of the body brought an end to the anxiety about the students’ whereabouts after she went missing on September 2 at 11 am.

After being reported at the Maasai Mara police post as a missing person, family and friends embarked on a mission to locate the journalism student.

According to Commander Ngare, the deceased’s mother has since travelled from her home in Eldoret to Narok to identify the body. This latest incident brings to focus the hazard Maasai Mara University students face at the hands of the River Narok.

In April, two students from the same institution lost their lives at the river after attempting to cross a frail bridge.
The students, a male and a female were on an adventure when they were swept away by the flooded river. Authorities claimed the pair attempted to cross an impassable section of the river when one of them tripped. The other student also fell into the river trying to help his counterpart.

River Narok has an infamous black spot, which has claimed not only the lives of students, but civilians as well.
Professional divers in the area have alleged that during the long rains, the river can go as deep as 14 metres
