Following the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy which claimed 21 lives, the Kenyan government responded on the crisis with a mitigation series of action.
On September 6, 2024, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura issued a press release expressing deepest condolences to the affected families and assured that thorough investigations were underway to determine the cause of the, pledging full accountability to any negligence that caused the disaster.
Additionally, the national government has dispatched 50 bags of maize and beans, 100 mattresses and blanket to the institution as a mitigation measure.

“Fifty bags of rice and 50 bags of beans are en route to the site via Special Programs. A hundred mattresses and 100 blankets are also being dispatched with an estimated arrival time of 1300hr,” the statement read
President William Ruto also expressed his deep condolences to the families affected and termed the event “devastating.” He called for an investigation into the major cause of the fire, promising that those responsible would be held accountable.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives in the fire tragedy at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County” he wrote on X.
The government further committed to providing safety in schools across the country to prevent such incidents from happening. Relevant agencies such as Red cross have been deployed to manage the situation by offering counselling services to the victims’ families and survivors according to spokesperson, Mwaura.
